Another Photojourn assignment.
I decided to add a little meaning to my self portrait by spoofing the Philippines’ former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s mugshot.
Test shot inside the room (below). You can even see my lamp and a bit of my UP Letterman jacket.

Then I went outside and looked for a good place to shoot around the villageI looked pretty stupid and there were so many people staring at me.
I tried working with my polka-dotted scarf to sort of get the neck brace effect. I got a pretty good shot the first time I tried it (left). The second time though, my picture was a bit soft (right).

For this shot I asked my maid to lie down on the ground so that I could focus on her face. Then I pressed the timer and ran to the spot where she lay… And I came up with this.

When I got tired of taking shots outdoors, I went back inside and tried to get creative. My mom pointed out the white vertical blinds we have by the veranda sort of look like bars of a prison cell. She was right.

Was thinking of captioning this “Subdued”

A shot by the wall.

When I got all the shots I needed, I decided to take a shot I could use as a display picture. I used the same wall.

It was cute but out of focus. So I took another one.

My prof’s comments were that some shots were too over exposed. I guess they were good enough. At least I had a theme.
It was pretty difficult to take self portrait shots, especially since my camera was on Manual override. Also, I’m not the prettiest person in the world, which is why I ended up being limited to shots that were good enough but would have been better had I been born with a nicer face. I love my eyes though.
Ok that was another awkward post.
